The goals for students engaging in the fellowship program are as follows:
- Hands-on research experience: Through the fellowship, students will gain the foundational skills, knowledge, and competencies necessary for a research-based graduate program and/or career relevant to research.
- Enhanced critical thinking and intellectual curiosity: The fellowship is intended to bring together students from various disciplinary backgrounds, including (but not limited to) computer science, economics, history, linguistics, organizational behavior, political science, and sociology. Fellows will demonstrate the ability to think deeply about multifaceted issues in education, evaluating ongoing research using interdisciplinary approaches, and consider various perspectives and contexts within which researchers address pressing challenges in education.
- Community building and professional development: Students will build relationships with Stanford Accelerator for Learning (SAL) affiliated faculty and staff engaging in cutting-edge empirical research, in addition to building important peer learning connections within a multidisciplinary cohort.
The learning outcomes for students engaging in the fellowship program are as follows:
- Research competencies: Fellows should be able to implement appropriate research methodologies required to conduct rigorous empirical research; follow research protocol; clean, merge, and analyze data; and draw relevant conclusions.
- Collaborative Skills: Fellows should demonstrate the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams, contributing to team research efforts and peer learning experiences.
- Communication: Fellows should be able to effectively communicate their research findings orally, visually, and in writing to academic and general audiences.
- Critical Thinking: Fellows should be capable of reviewing established literature on a given topic, analyzing ongoing research and policies in education, and identifying gaps for potential scholarly contribution.
- Community Building: Fellows should establish professional relationships with peers, mentors, and leaders in the field of education.
- Commitment to Educational Impact: Through the above, fellows should be equipped with a better understanding of how research can inform education policy and practice, developing a deeper commitment to addressing inequities in education.
