Teaching Performance Assessment

SCALE develops 21st century teacher assessments that embody the design principles listed in the Assessment System and that build on what we have learned from previous assessment development efforts over the past 25 years. SCALE leaders have influenced the full lineage of teacher performance assessment including the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and the InTASC new teacher portfolio. Currently, SCALE works with teacher preparation programs in California (on the Performance Assessment for California Teachers) as well as 34 other states across the nation as part of the edTPA Teacher Performance Assessment Consortium. SCALE also works with several districts, states, and foundations developing assessments for use with experienced teachers.

SCALE also works with foundations, research groups, and local and state education agencies to develop assessments that measure teaching effectiveness beyond student standardized test scores. Observation tools and performance-based assessments of student learning were developed for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Measures of Effective Teaching program and the New York City Teacher Effectiveness Pilot Project.
