Funded by Bechtel Foundation and Silver Giving, this project developed and piloted a NGSS-aligned, project based 8th grade curriculum with embedded performance assessments. To design the curriculum using the California framework to incorporated life science, earth science, and physical science performance expectations (standards) within each unit. To incorporate the BSCS 5E approach (Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, and Evaluate) within each learning segment in each unit. To provide teachers with professional development to enhance their science content knowledge, to increase their understanding of the teaching and assessment implications of NGSS, to gather feedback on the instructional materials as teachers piloted the units, and to assist teachers with the implementation of the curriculum with their students.
